Steps to reproduce:

I tried to update Firefox.


Actual results:

It gives me an error message and said that the update was not applied, and to make sure that no other version of firefox is installed. I did Have the other versions of firefox, like nightly installed previously, but I removed it a long time ago. This error has been coming for the past few versions. I'm on version 10 currently. In order to install the update, I have to uninstall firefox, and download the latest version from the site.


Expected results:

The update should have applied after the restart, with no error message.

I've opend the task Manager and made sure that Firefox.exe is not running before I open the browser again.I've even tried closing any that would be indirectly related, i.e. Flash Updater. I don't have anyother version installed, so they wouldn't be running. Rather than closing the firefox my self, I've opend the "About Firfox" pop up and clicked apply update. They same error message occures.

Error message: "The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again."

This is annoying because I have to uninstall and then update from the website, even for smaller updates, i.e. 10 -> 10.0.1.

Still not fixed. Updating from 10.0.1 to 10.0.2 gave the same error. This time I made 100% sure that firefox.exe was not running. I even tried to install the update via -> Help -> About -> Apply Update. I'll try again and Post the list of running applications/services.

What is running when I try to update: Ati, Avast, Catalyst Control Center, csrss, DWm, explorer, force field (Zone Alarm), HD audio Control Pannel, Taskhost, TaskMgr, winlogon, ZoneAlarm Tray. the only time Firefox.exe shows up is when the error messages comes.

This is likely due to ZoneAlarm Force Field... it has repeatedly caused problems with updating. Try disabling it and then updating. Searching For problems with Firefox and Force Field will likely give you additional information.

okay, I closed that but the error still stayed. I ran the firefox.exe as an Admin, and That ran the updater correctly. on 10.0.2 now.

I am facing a same issue when attempting to update from 10.2. to 11.0


The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.

If you're still having a problem, Right Click the Firefox icon on the desktop and click "Run as Admin", it will update. At least that's how it fixed for me.

I has been downloaded full installation file and this updated firefox fine.
