This is a followon from bug 64795. I said:

"Basically, nsHTTPIndexParser needs to be pulled out of nsDirectoryViewer.cpp
(and placed somewhere else), and given a set of callback functions. Its not as
simple at cut-and-pasting the code, because the parser isn't separated from the
RDF datasource. I think."

Then I can check for the pref from within the gopher handler

I haven't touched it since I've been at netscape. See the various comments in
bug 78148 though regarding possible problems, though - lack of sorting for file
urls being the main one, although that may not be important in this case (I
really have no idea what embedding will want) The i18n stuff is fixable, and
should work, its just untested, and would probably be a day or two's work,
assuming that I can get access to test machines to check it on.

I've kept the patches free of cvs conflicts on my home machine, but I haven't
tested properly it for ages (the raw ftp listing stuff dougt added a while back
doesn't go through this scheme, and I haven't tested that it works). Visting ftp
and gopher sites does work though, and the ftp bookmarks feature has been pulled
out, so it doesn't matter if that broken, I guess.

choffmann - let me know, privately if needed, what the exact requirements are.

removing topembed per conversation with chofmann.

Glen - no, there wasn't, although the patch in bug 78148 does this. Theres no
ETA on that, though.

Mass change: Bug 78148 has been checked in, and so it and these dependancies
should have been fixed. If you disagree, please reopen.

Note that the xul view is still enabled for file because of i18n problems. The
bug to fix this is bug 102812.

Creating separate bug for gopher about honoring the pref (in case anyone
continues to care about gopher/XUL).
