When I open and then close the preferences pane in Thunderbird (9.0.1, but this has been going on for a while), I get this mysterious gray square (see attached). From the "curtain" effect when closing the preferences pane, it looks like it's a sheet attached to this otherwise-invisible window?

Any suggestions on how to get rid of this? It's very predictable, and means i need to kill and restart thunderbird every time I adjust prefs (since the gray box steals focus from the main window).

related to bug 641288, deleting localstore.rdf might help

I can confirm: changing "browser.preferences.instantApply" to true fixes it. If I had to guess at an extension that broke it, I'd blame QuickFolders.

Dustin, do you still see this problem? Is there info you can add to bug 641288 to help it get fixed?

I don't use Thunderbird anymore, so I don't see the error.
