User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:10.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.1
Build ID: 20120208060813

Steps to reproduce:

If TB is quit while it is checking POP mail, a Login Failed window appears and TB hangs, and the only option is to force quit.

Expected results:

TB should just stop checking accounts and quit as usual.
does it hang also in version 10?

Since I'm running 8.0.1, I don't know.

I thought the team would have the proper system available to test it.
But I was having the same issue in 6.? before upgrading to 8 last month.
I didn't think I could be the only one with this issue - I thought it would be everyone, so I was surprised I didn't find and recent bug reports or forum posts.
This doesn't occur on your system? If I open TB and quit right away while it's checking my several POP accounts, I can duplicate the problem every time.
my primary account isn't pop.
reporting against current versions, or even development versions, is preferable.
Whiteboard: dupeme?
Well if it hasn't been fixed, then it's still there in the current version, don't you think?
Surely SOMEONE on the team uses POP. I'd imaging IMAP would do the same.
> Well if it hasn't been fixed, then it's still there in the current version, don't you think?

I don't understand how you would know this without testing it. And, well, it could be any number of issues. some Mac specific and some not. being on the most current release helps us narrow the possibilities

possibilities: bug 589759 and others ... https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?keywords=hang;chfieldto=2012-02-19;query_format=advanced;keywords_type=allwords;chfieldfrom=12m;list_id=2393015;short_desc=dialog%20prompt%20password;short_desc_type=anywordssubstr;type0-0-0=nowords;value0-0-0=count%20counts;resolution=---;resolution=FIXED;resolution=INVALID;resolution=DUPLICATE;product=MailNews%20Core;product=Thunderbird
I didn't realize reporting a possible bug was going to be such a complete waste of time. Sorry, it won't happen again!

Proper workflow SHOULD be: User reports bug>Team attempts to duplicate bug using same version as reporter>Team submits their findings.

Instead, the workflow has been: User reports bug>Team asks user if bug occurs in version that User has never used>User responds>Team complains that they don't have the necessary setup to test their own software>User responds>Team tries to blame the bug on the OS or "any number of issues," all without having tested their software for the bug>User gets annoyed & tells Team to flake off.

I'd expect a team as large as TB's to have access to several recent versions for testing. It's not my job to do it for you!
I found what appears to be a bug, on 2 different computers and several versions of TB, so I reported it.
I had no intention of updating to TB 10+ until it's been out longer, however I accidentally updated to 10.0.2 earlier today and the bug is STILL THERE! I find it unlikely that this sort of issue would be caused by the OS or my configuration.
So, now that I've made your job sooooo much easier by testing it myself on the current version, do you think you could find time to FIX IT?
And what about all the other users with this issue? You were just gonna let them live with it, because you couldn't find a way to test it?

Very simple: With POP (or IMAP?) accounts set up and TB set to check accounts upon opening, open TB. Close TB in a second or two when you see the progress indicator moving. TB hangs every time.

User OUT.
(For anyone coming from hg annotate, looking for:
"Felix Fung - 664cd714e7f1 - Bug 727901 - Fixed gImageView.data[row] is undefined when sorting. r=dao"
...the correct bug # is bug 727910.)
reporter, did this also fail version 5, but not fail in version 3.x?

dossy or roland, can you reproduce this behavior?

If not, and this isn't an outright duplicate of bug 482811, then we'll probably need a protocol log from reporter
Keywords: regression
Summary: Hangs when closed while checking mail → Hangs on "login failed" when closed while checking pop mail
Version: 8 → 6
bienvenu, would pop3 log be sufficient?

needs:
- stacktrace https://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report#Mac
- protocol log of "pop3:5" per https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging

This bug seems to be gone in 11.0.1.

If I open Tb without an active Internet connection, TB does nothing - no error messages or anything.
thanks
