728183 - My Firefox update box keeps coming up, but it won't update

Since last summer after I got my Macbook Pro and installed firefox 5.0 I have been getting, several times a day right in the middle of typing and email or important letter or any other task, the update box will appear and when I click on update the box disappears and no update occurs.  Now after 7 months I just delete the box.  It is annoying, don't know if it is harmeful, but I would like to get rid of it.  Just the fact that I have found this site and reporting it means I am fed up.  I can't just get it to reproduce.  It may come up when I start Firefox, but it happens after such a long time after I start it that it may not be related, because it happens everyday even when I don't close Firefox.

It's important to update since Firefox5.0 contains security holes that are fixed in later versions.
Please download and install the full Version of Firefox 10.0.2 from http://getfirefox.com/ and report back if you got a problem with installing

I have had the same trouble as sailvicariouskat in not being able to "update firefox" with exactly the same results. Have also tried to install the full version, it seems to successfully install but I still get the update box.  Additionally, a box appears that shows the firefox icon on the left with an arrow and asks me to move it into my files. when I do, it appears to move but I hear a sound (similar to when you "miss" the trash can") and of course it was not successful.  I've tried to trash firefox, so I can just reinstall fresh, but I get an error message when I do this that says it can not be deleted??? I read somewhere weeks ago that there's something I can do to clean it out but I can't find it now.
