the reason it opens a new url is in nsNNTPProtocol::GetContentType() for list-ids urls (m_typeWanted == IDS_WANTED) we are returning message/rfc-822 as the content type. I think we'll need a new content type for "x-application-internal" or "x- application-news-internal" or something, and run it (like we do for "x- application-newsgroup") but not open any windows.

Sorry, but this just annoys me and if possible should be fixed for nsbeta1. Nominating. ;-)

This is a pain, especially since it can change a browser window you're using to a blank page. Should be fixed sooner than 1.0.1?

2002030703 now opens another "Mail/News" window when the expire link is clicked
Technically, this is a DUP of bug 129574 (I just filed it to cover the fact we open a new _mail_ window now). I'll be scrupulous and re-open, re-dup, and verify.

this was never checked into the .9.9 branch - it's fixed on the trunk (or was fixed, anyway...)
