728246 - cannot install firefox3.6 on ubuntu 11.10

Steps to reproduce:

I downloaded firefox 3.6.26 off of the mozilla website.  I extracted it and moved the folder to /opt  (I am on Ubuntu 11.10 by the way). I then tried to run firefox from that folder using the terminal. 

As a side note, the reason I am trying to use firefox 3.6 is that I read that you cannot enable browsing with a CAC (smart card) with versions later than 4. I am open to other solutions. 


Actual results:

It always says "exec: 390: /opt/firefox/firefox-bin: not found". I can see the firefox-bin file when I "ls" the firefox directory. 


Expected results:

According to everything I have read and all the support from forums I tried before reporting it here, it should have just started.

Firefox 3.6 is only supported for security updates. Your best bet is likely going to be a support forum (Mozilla's or an Ubuntu forum)

Since 3.7.x is near EOL i have to wontfix this report
