Happy to add The Den to the universal theme: with a few caveats

blog.mozilla.com/theden

1. We'd like to keep the graphic that was designed for us on the header - please let me know if we need to modify that to match the new theme. If we use the blue palate, I think it might match
2. Will the things we already added to our single sidebar (want to keep the single sidebar) just move over?
3. Would still like to modify the layout a bit to have other "featured stories" on the page, per Bug 721002
4. Would like to keep our Twitter/Facebook buttons under the posts

Let me know what I need to do to help. :)

Keeping the header image is easy, and it'll work really well with the blue color scheme already. But there are some other Den customizations that would be lost by switching to One Mozilla, at least in its current state. The Twitter and Facebook buttons aren't built into the new theme, but we're working on a standardized social sharing widget that we'll be able make an available option for all blogs using the theme. Featured posts will also be a forthcoming addition.

The Den has some special sidebar blocks for the newsletter signup and download button, and those would be lost in the switch. But another cool thing about the new One Mozilla theme is that it's easy to spawn "child themes" that extend and modify the original without recreating the whole thing. So I think we could easily do a child theme for The Den that combines the best of both.

Do you have timing for this? We can't lose the social share buttons right now - since we do run the social channels. :) And we were really hoping for featured posts in Q1. I think we'd be willing to switch, but after these were available. :)

If you can use The Force to spawn a child theme, so we could keep the newsletter sign up and the download button, that'd be awesome - because this page is a good funnel for us right now.

So I say let's switch BUT let's wait until we can address these few things. :)

Not sure on timing, Chrissie can probably address the priority. I'd intended to work on featured posts as a standard theme feature already, but I don't think it'll be in by the end of Q1 (since we only have a few weeks left). So I'm going to estimate mid-to-late April unless I'm told otherwise (Chrissie?).

The child theme should be pretty easy, and in fact will be a really good prototype to show people some of what's possible with child themes. It's just a question of scheduling and priority. And it would include the social buttons for now until we have the standard widget ready. So aside from featured posts I think we can switch The Den over easily enough in the next few weeks, and the featured posts functionality will just magically appear one day soon after.
The UX team is going to be creating a new blog at blog.mozilla.com/ux and it will be part blog and part static page content. I am filing an IT bug for them now and they would like to use the WordPress OneMozilla theme when it is available.
Will there be a security review for this new theme?

There will be, and we'll open that bug this week.

Carmen, thanks for your interest here :-) Let's follow up with Jane offline, since there are a few items that make The Den less of candidate for this update at this time. Thanks lady!

Chris, great to hear about the UX Team's blog. First step is actually to work with PR on where the blog will live, instructions via https://wiki.mozilla.org/Websites/Blog#Summary_.26_Project_Background

This one probably falls into the same category at l10n team's blog, but there are a few items to work with Valerie on before things get underway. Thanks!

Mozilla blog guidelines (this is being moved to the One Mozilla wiki shortly) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kv5R9-93mEs2GdFQ08Z2zeI8dTFzoeV_vPmtzZF8xTE/edit?hl=en_US

Thanks, CB! The UX team reached out to us to help guide them through the process of a new blog for their team because they initially just wanted server to put up static content and future blog posts.
Sounds great Chris, just make sure to work through Valerie, since PR is the curator of all official Mozilla channels off of blog.mozilla.com. She'll guide you towards where the blog makes the most sense and the most updated guidelines.
