Thunderbird Facebook page is going through the same revamping than Firefox (see bug 732090) and we need some ideas for the cover image. As far as I know we have way less assets than Firefox but if there is a library I'm not aware of.

Final deadline is March 20th, 2012 as I'll need time to implement.

Technical requirements are the same than FF

- A cover image should be 851 x 315 pixels in non-transparent PNG and JPG formats (having both formats will let us test which looks better).
- Cover images shouldn't include any text since they can't be localized. All fans will see the same image regardless of what language they speak.
- Adding the Thunderbird wordmark would be fine but we don't have to include it.

thanks. AM
Hi AM. We can add this to our list, but it's not going to be doable by the 20th. Even though it's a relatively simple project, we need more advance notice so it can be properly scheduled in.

What's driving the overall deadline here?
Hello John,
Unfortunately the deadline is driven by Facebook! on March 30th, they will force new layout. I wanted to make sure I've enough time to work on the whole project and the main image is key... Sorry, but again if there is a TB image library somewhere, I'm pleased to dig.
AM
There probably are Thunderbird images out there, but since my team hasn't done much (if any) Thunderbird-related projects in the past Tara and I unfortunately aren't the best people to know about or have them.

As far as the Facebook timing goes, my understanding is that if you don't have a timeline cover image when the switch is made, it'll just be formatted without an image. If that's correct, it doesn't seem like a huge deal if we don't have an image ready by then.
AM, Please advise on next steps :)
If you have an existing photo, I can have a freelancer crop it for you.
You can probably do something simple with just the TB logo. Or we can close this out and revisit when you have better imagery. Thoughts?
Hello Tara,
thanks for your note. well, I feel a little bit in a corner for now but if you have a good idea with the TB logo, that would be great. I've tried to gather some pictures from the team but I didn't get anything really exciting for the time being. Front cover should highlight the product brand and can't have unformal employees or contributors picture, at least at launch. Any idea is welcome.
Then lets go with the TB logo and an artful crop, for now.
Do you have a high res / source file of that handy to post?

Rhonda, can you help whip this up for us please?

Hey Tara--
No problem, I even have the logo so I have everything I need to start. I'll try and have this for you tomorrow.

here is a Thunderbird logo cropped for the FB timeline specs. Let me know what you think.

AM, thoughts?

Thanks Rhonda. I think this could work, certainly for now... though I feel like it might also be a litttttle too intense when plugged in: https://www.facebook.com/Thunderbird

I might suggest muting out the colors a bit, just to fade it back so the profile image and rest of the page can sit on top and not be drowned out by a really giant (somewhat creepy) bird :) just my 2 cents, don't mean to be picky though.
Oh, you can also try cropping the logo in such a way that you see a little more of it. with perhaps a soft purple background (i believe we've used purple for TB before)

just a suggestion
OK! I'll work on a couple of options and get those out tomorrow.
:)

Hi. I agree with you Rhonda, it's very strong and almost intimidating.. Maybe that you could crop in a way where we see more "white" of the envelop...
Hey guys--
there are several new crops of the TB timeline image here on this link:

Let me know what you think.
