From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.2.17-21mdk i686; en-US; 0.8.1) Gecko/20010326 BuildID: 0.8.1 2001032614 After visiting some sites with traditional Chinese support, I bookmarked them with 0.7/0.8; Then, I backed up the bookmark file, delete all profiles (rm -rf .mozilla), installed 0.8.1 under my home directory. Then import my older bookmark file. when I click 'Bookmarks' on the menu, the titles of those sites simple won't shown, leaving a blank line for each site. The same happens when I tried to 'manage' bookmarks. However, when I click 'Tasks', recent visited sites are shown in Chinese characters, as expected. note that, new sites bookmarked with 0.8.1 are behaved normal, Chinese titles are shown as normal. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. use 0.8 to bookmark some chinese sites (i tried smartnews.singtao.com) 2. backup the bookmark file, delete the whole .mozilla, install 0.8.1, let it migrate my '4.x' profile. 3. import the backup bookmark file, save it; 4. click 'bookmarks' Actual Results: Chinese sites bookmarked before 0.8.1 leaves a blank line; Expected Results: Show their titles. also, the title bar of the mozilla window doesn't show proper chinese characters, those were replaced by dots .... (i suppose the title bar will show the page's content between <title> and </title>) in addition, my platform is mandrake 7.2 + kde 2.0.1, with chinese fonts installed during mandrake installation.
this sounds a lot like a dupe. there's been a long standing bug about bookmarks having trouble importing characters like this.
Summary: Bookmarks from older profile can't show Chinese → Bookmarks from older profile can't show Chinese
Possible dupe of bug 50459 but felt this one matched better. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 54866 ***
