Details
In nsBrowserAccess there is some assumptions about the structure of Gaia. The code should really relies on Intent but until we have them working the code there could be replaced by an event similarly to the code in bug 735947 and bug 736312.
This will still be a dirty proprietary event but that's will be less dirty (maybe).
This should be fixed with intents and that's a good use case.

We have intents, can this be closed?

We still don't :)
But this does not make sense so close to have them.
