clicking on a row in the thread column doesn't do the right thing

Details
if in threaded mode and the message is part of a thread, we should expand and
select the thread. (multiple selection should blank out the message pane, but
that's another bug.)
if the message isn't part of a thread, we should select (and load) the message.
fix on the way!
