User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:11.0) Gecko/20120312 Firefox/11.0 SeaMonkey/2.8 Build ID: 20120312220748 Steps to reproduce: Upgraded VLC to 2.0.1 it seems it has integrated something (plugin) inside the SeaMonkey too having an email with video attachment the icon of the attachment now changed to VLC's clicking to attachment Actual results: the plugin opened inside of the sea monkey, but it does not start to play it. The filename is on the address line of the screen. In case of saving the file separately, VLC has no problem with it to open, so it seems that there is some problem with transfering filename or similar. Expected results: The video attachment should be played.
What did you upgrade from? If you revert back to whatever you upgraded from, does the plugin work? Is this plugin an integral part of VLC 2.0.1 or something separate that you download? What does about:plugins show? What does Add-ons Manager | Plugins show? Is the purpose of the plugin for video to play embedded in the browser window? URL of the video it does not play? Is it only that video that does not play or is it all videos that do not play?
What is the name of the plugin?
The name of plugin is "VLC Web Plugin File: npvlc.dll Version: 2.0.0.0 VLC media player Web Plugin 2.0.0 The plugin is part of the VLC. The problem is only when opening video, which is attached to email in the inbox. In case of saving the video separately and opening it with the same plugin inside Seamonkey it opens the video without problem. I suppose there is some problem with transfering the filename from inbox to the plugin. Example: opening from attachment:(NOT WORKING) mailbox:///G:/Program%20Files/mozilla.org/Mail/pop3.volny.cz/Inbox.sbd/FRANC?number=1689126285&part=1.2&filename=lente%20mandereineend%20plaerth.wmv opening saved attachment file (WORKING). file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/Plocha/lente%20mandereineend%20plaerth.wmv I have not found any video, which can be correctly opened from the mail with this plugin. Regards, Zetka.
(In reply to therube from comment #1) > What did you upgrade from? > If you revert back to whatever you upgraded from, does the plugin work? Could you answer that too? Is this bug a regression or a new "feature" that doesn't work (yet)?

> What did you upgrade from? I had VLC v. 1.0.2 (something like that) and this older version did not integrated itself into SEA Monkey, I suppose that more agresive was a Flash player, which opened the video attachments as well. > If you revert back to whatever you upgraded from, does the plugin work? So in case of reverting to old setup and returning to flash I am convinced that it will work again. I do not want to make to much revertning steps. I am not able to answer to a question of "regression", but I have met and opened a bug some time before with similar problem (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525211), so I suspect something similar. As far as VLC is very broad used, and i suppose that most of people use it, try to install it to and verfify my statements. zekta
> or a .... "feature" that doesn't work (yet)? That's what I'm thinking (from the little I could find on the web). I don't have VLC /installed/, though using the following method, I cannot get sample clips to play in SeaMonkey 10a or Firefox, FF 3.6 & FF 6.0 & FF 11.0. http://portableapps.com/node/31358#comment-191322 Samples: http://archive.org/details/EricZimmermanMyTestAVIfile... http://archive.org/details/Pbtestfilemp4videotestmp4 Now I'm not versed in VLC, much less its plugins. But it appears its plugins are a WIP. There is also talk of some sort of .xpi, but again, no clue where to find it? (I have VLC 2.0, not 2.0.1, & using the 7-zip archive that I simply extract.)
Long ago I remember having to manually copy the VLC plugin to the SeaMonkey plugins directory in order to test something or other. Perhaps recent versions of VLC register it's NPAPI plugin with the Windows registry so that all Gecko applications can pick it up automatically. > Example: > opening from attachment:(NOT WORKING) > mailbox:///G:/Program%20Files/mozilla.org/Mail/pop3.volny.cz/Inbox.sbd/FRANC?number=1689126285&part=1.2&filename=lente%20mandereineend%20plaerth.wmv Hmm. I don't think that would work. zetka, can you go to Tools->Addons. Then to the plugins tab and then disable the VLC plugin? Can you view the .WMV file then?
> > zetka, can you go to Tools->Addons. > Then to the plugins tab > and then disable the VLC plugin? > > Can you view the .WMV file then? I have done it. The VLC Icon stays on the attachment, when I click to open, it opens the VLC player itself and opens the file from the attachment correctly in the VLC. zetka

NPAPI plugins are no longer supported.
