Steps to reproduce:

Computer went to sleep (not hibernation). I woke the computer and focused on Firefox Nightly. Tried to refresh page/go to a different page in GMail, Facebook, Twitter, and other tabs that were open when the computer went to sleep.


Actual results:

No positive results. Nightly previously open tabs sit and Nightly acts like it is attempting to refresh the page/go to a different page but nothing changes. On those tabs, Nightly simply hangs and acts catatonic. However, new tabs seem to function normally.


Expected results:

All tabs and content should behave normally without hanging and acting catatonic.

I don't see anything security sensitive here unless you want to make your addons and plugins private.

I notice you have two sets of Java and Flash active with the older still the vulnerable version. You should definitely make sure the older versions are uninstalled and not active.

Does this occur in safe mode? See http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode

If it doesn't, please try to determine which extension is responsible. You can use a binary search and find the culprit in 3-4 tries.

It is a security problem if the reason that sites are freezing in tabs is because some application has gained control of that tab at the point of the computer entering sleep or awaking and Mozilla Firefox Nightly not regaining control over that tab.


I removed all but the most recent versions of JAVA and Shockwave Flash, and Firefox Nightly's behavior is unchanged.


This bug (and my issue) has nothing to do with Firefox Nightly's start up, which is rather quick on my system.


This bug (and my issue) is not a duplicate of the bugs you mentioned:

Bug 580968 is of the 32-bit stable Firefox version 3.6, not of 64-bit Firefox Nightly version 14.0a1, and it involves slowdowns rather than the freezes that I encounter.

Bug 634895 is of version 4.0 Branch from over a year ago, which is not current, and is not of the 64-bit Firefox Nightly version 14.0a1. In addition, this bug is about increased memory usage after "Keeping firefox open For a long time and hibernating/sleeping" and temporary hangs that resolve whereas in my case Firefox Nightly tabs freeze and do not resolve and memory usage may actually reduce after awaking from sleep mode.

Bug 639262 is of an unspecified version of Firefox from more than one year ago on an Apple laptop running Mac OS X on an x86 CPU. Moreover, this bug is about a temporary lag with focus on Firefox's "pinwheel" and resolution within approximately 20 seconds.


I have uploaded images of Windows Task Manager that show Firefox Nightly's Memory before and after different events, including three of my computer's sleep events and two Firefox Nightly updates.


Surely Mozilla and its developers know which extensions are stable, which are not, which play together peacefully, and which play poorly with Firefox Nightly. I already uploaded a copy of my installed extensions.


Reproducible: Always (on my system)

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Run Mozilla Firefox Nightly with several tabs opened.
2. Put the system to sleep.
3. Resume system from sleep and attempt to work with Mozilla Firefox Nightly again.

Actual Results:

Tabs that were open before system sleep mode will no longer work or access the Internet. Newly opened tabs work normally.


My system:

Ff : Mozilla Firefox Nightly 14.0a1 (2012-04-01) with 203 tabs open (until recently, I was able to run more than this without the issue of hung tabs)
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T (Thuban) @ 3.4 MHz w/HS & fan
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 @ 1866 MHz w/fan
MB : ASUS Crosshair IV
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5870 w/1 GB DDR5 video RAM
HDD: WD Black 1 TB w/push+full fans
FAN: 6 case fans


I will not try Firefox Nightly in its Safe Mode because I do not wish to lose my saved sessions in Session Manager or my tabs in Tab Mix Plus. I will disable all other extensions and restore them individually.

James, does current nightly perform any better?  If it doesn't can you nail which day of nightly build started causing problem?

Wayne Mery, Current Nightly stops responding every one to two seconds and loses keystrokes (or rearranges them) as I continue typing while Nightly "goes to sleep" for another 5-6 seconds (Not Responding). After it again responds, the entire Firefox flashes white and the Windows hour glass displays for a fraction of a second and then restores its correct appearance.

Wayne Mery, The issue of not working on certain sites after waking from Windows Sleep Mode seems to be corrected. However, Firefox Nightly is still very slow and sluggish and has been for a few weeks, now. It makes typing for online university school work a serious problem when entire typed words and phrases disappear without my notice and my submissions appear less than intelligent.

After updating to version 15.0a1 (2012-05-02), Mozilla Nightly is no longer recognized as equal to or later than Mozilla Firefox version 1.3. However, the hesitations seem a little shorter but they are not gone.

Wayne, if studies permit, I will try to find the time to do that this weekend. Thanks for that link. On the other hand, after I moved back to stable Firefox, it acted just as poorly until I updated it to version 12, deleted all but a 12 tabs, and disabled a few add-ons and plug-ins that I suspected might be involved, I have much better performance but it is not perfect.

I am no longer having the issues that I was when I opened this bug. The only issue I have now is that Blackboard does not recognize Nightly and limits functionality of its editor.
