We are going to run an online survey on April 9 for a few locales asking Firefox users general questions about their use of a browser and their knowledge about Mozilla.

This survey will be ran on an external survey website, therefore we don't have a staging server (yet).
(I am putting the file to translate on mozilla.org repository as a convenience for the project only).

The file is in your svn reposiroty at this address:

There are 101 strings but most of them are very short and easy to translate.

I’ve translated the survey, Thomas, please check: r103721.

I have a few questions about the strings, though.

1)
Can I just check, which of the following web browsers do you use on your desktop computer or laptop at the moment, either at home or at work?

This doesn’t make sense to me. Who is „I“ and what is checked? To me, this sounds like the survey automatically selects the browser the respondent is currently using.

2)
Some of the error messages confuse me. They sound like it’s possible for the respondent to choose invalid options, such as „no answer“ and an answer option, or choosing multiple answers when only one answer is required.

If possible, the survey should be designed in a way, that avoids invalid options, I think.

Regarding question 1, I understand the "can I just check" as a politeness formula before the question itself

For me the question really is:

Which of the following web browsers do you use on your desktop computer or laptop at the moment, either at home or at work?


CCing Patrick who wrote the survey. Patrick, can you confirm/infirm my assumption? In the former case I will just update the string to remove the "Can I just check" part so as to not confuse people.

As for question 2, I will also let Patrick answer (I haven't seen the survey online).

Yes, that interpretation is correct, "Can I just check" is there to establish informality and also that the reader understands that this is a question that establishes context and is at the start of the survey.

If the question reads well without that context, please leave it out, or substitute some else that establishes similar context.

The survey will be designed that way - the error messages are to be translated so that the user is able to understand and take corrective action.  I don't believe that 
ILLCHS	Illegal characters for single code input
ILLCHM	Illegal characters for multi code input
and
ILLTPL	Illegal string for this template
will be published to a user - I could check.

Danke für die Korrekturen, ich habe eine Änderung wieder rückgängig gemacht (r103733).

Im String „Which of the following web browsers do you use on your desktop computer or laptop at the moment, either at home or at work?“ steht „Browser“ im Plural, deswegen habe ich das auch in der deutschen Version wieder so geändert.

Translation done, bug closed.

Just to be sure: Pascal, Patrick: Is the question „Which of the following web browsers do you use on your desktop computer or laptop at the moment, either at home or at work?“ supposed to be answered by selecting a single oder multiple browsers?

multiple browsers - we want to identify all the browsers the respondent uses.
