I was using Google Docs and was annoyed because I was prevented from seeing the last line in its text editor by Firefox's status line ("Waiting for data from google.com" or something to that effect). That status line was being displayed for several seconds (I suppose due to network or server latency). When the status was displayed in the status bar, everything was good, but this has been broken by Firefox's developers, and now the status is displayed above the status bar.
Do you still see this issue? If not, please close to resolution WORKSFORME

Sure, nothing has changed in this aspect of FF.

This is by design and a side-effect of not having a dedicated status bar - see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-happened-status-bar for more details. Even though you may not agree with the design, I'm closing this as WONTFIX as it is working as intended.
