Dan, Please create backup1.db.scl3.mozilla.com as a VM. We will need: cpu - whatever, really, mysql uses 1 cpu at a time, sadly, although I guess compression and snapshotting can be multi-threaded RAM - as much as you can give us, we'll probably be putting a dozen databases on this, so if each was allowed 2G RAM, that's 24G. Disk - 600G (or more, whatever you can give us!) OS - RHEL5 , as this needs MySQL 5.0 Let me know if I missed a spec.
Per irc conversation with sheeri: (1) Using RHEL6 instead of RHEL5 (2) 16GB RAM (3) Setting this up for NetApp VM snapshots
Done: (1) 600GB disk mounted as /data, formatted ext4. (2) SMVI snapshots will be taken every Sunday at 8PM. It will keep 8 snapshots.
