RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 663859

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0
Build ID: 20120321033733

Steps to reproduce:

I used "Search in all messages"

Actual results:

Returned results are sorted by relevance, I have to click on the "date" button, always.

Expected results:

Returned results should have been sorted by date, or there should be an easy way to do so. 90% of my "Search All Messages" usage is to retrieve one of the most recent message threads related to a keyword. I am not looking for extremely "relevant" threads from 2003, I want the most recent ones from the last 3 months for instance (think searching for a feature discussion on a development mailing list).

I open this bug today because after years of clicking on "date" I eventually found an extension to do that:

  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/search-results-sort-by-date-no/

with an old discussion on mozilla.dev.apps.thunderbird:

  https://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.apps.thunderbird/browse_thread/thread/455f100a900f3784/121fcd9bcd8a57b5

and realized I would always install it in every future TB installation, which makes me think it probably belongs to some configuration panel in TB itself (or just remember the sort order).

Valid point in my opinion.
