User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1
Build ID: 20111220165912

Steps to reproduce:

Replied to an e-mail in my inbox (Gmail, IMAP), and then moved the e-mail to another folder within Gmail (after the mail had sent successfully).

Actual results:

The icon indicating that the e-mail had been replied to disappeared.

Expected results:

The "replied" icon should have transferred folders along with the email, so I know which e-mails I've replied to already and those I haven't.

I couldn't reproduce it here:
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:11.0) Gecko/20120327 Thunderbird/11.0.1
Application Build ID: 20120327115527

Replied to a message, moved the message to a different folder on the same IMAP server, the moved message still shows the reply indicator.

Strange - on a different e-mail account (university provided), moving a "replied" e-mail between folders gave no problem (icon stay with).

When I move the message to and from my university and Gmail account, the replied icon is retained.

However, when I move WITHIN a few different Gmail folders, the icon is always lost. Very strange.

This would probably need a log of smtp:5
https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging .
Component: Folder and Message Lists → Networking: IMAP
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
QA Contact: folders-message-lists → networking.imap
Imap not smtp for the log :-)

IMAP activity log

IMAP activity log - opened Thunderbird, move "replied to" e-mail from Gmail inbox to "Tutoring" folder, and the "replied" icon was lost. Moved back to inbox, closed Thunderbird.
The \Flags seems ok. There's no error in the log. We'll need someone with more experience to reading these files to have a look.

Confirmed on Linux. Moved gmail to gmail.

I guess gmail does not support \Answered flag.
Ever confirmed: true
OS: Windows XP → All
Hardware: x86 → All
Version: 10 → Trunk
Something strange..

This page (in Japanese) says Gmail does not support \Answered flag.

But this page(in Engligh) does not say so...

Anyway the problem is gmail itself, I think.

Ah well! Thanks for looking at this, good to track down where the issue lies. What's the best way to raise this with Google? Just so they're aware.

Report from World Anti-ambigous-BugSummary Association :-)

bug 667950 seems "imap server doesn't support flag for Replied state(\Answered?)"
bug 729732 seems "bug in copy code" (David said so in bug)
This bug : Gmail doesn't support \Answered. Same kind of issue as bug 667950.
-> IIRC, Gmail IMAP already supports \Answered flag well.
bug 690194 : absolutely different from above.
user moved replied mail before reply mail is sent, so Tb is impossible to find replied mail
Blocks: 402793
No longer depends on: 667950
Summary: When moving an e-mail (after replying) to another folder, the "replied" icon disappears → When moving an e-mail (after replying) to another folder, the "replied" icon disappears (Gmail IMAP doesn't support \Answered flag)
Correction of inaccurate statement.
bug 729732 seems "bug in FOLDER copy code" (David said so in bug). It looks no problem when "copy of mails".
