User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.162 Safari/535.19 Steps to reproduce: I've tried to repair the folder by right-clicking it, going to properties, and clicking Repair Folder. Actual results: My thunderbird has erased E-Mails from both my inbox and a folder. Also, the inbox constantly resets to the default settings, and I will randomly get an "unread" E-Mail, but there is no E-Mail that's unread. Also, Friday I was unable to move my E-Mails into a certain folder, and right after it showed having an unread E-Mail (which it didn't) I was able to file again into that folder.
Not a security sensitive bug. Removing flag.

Are you using POP3?
Component: General → Database
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
QA Contact: general → database
Yes, we are using POP3. I'm not really sure how to explain this issue any better, but it almost seems like it's compacting the Inbox automatically and without warning. I have been fortunate enough to be able to recover the user's emails that she lost from her backup on the server. I will try to gather some more information, but this is all I have at the moment.
Are you really on Thunderbird 9? What do you mean by "reset to default settings"? Do you mean the setting of which columns should be visible in the folder?
I'm not really sure, I haven't seen it happen for myself. I will sit with the user for a little while today to see if the problem occurs.
According to the user, what happens is that she has it set up to show certain columns and she also has tags set up. When her emails come in, the Inbox organizes the emails based on the tag and not based on the date, sender, or subject. When the Inbox is reset, the columns are set back to the default configuration and the emails come in in a different order.
Hello, Is there any update on this? The user is getting frustrated and I'd like to resolve this as soon as possible.
You can try rightclicking the folder -> Properties -> Repair folder. Setting the proper sort order is done by clicking on the column name.
We have already tried that a few times and it keeps happening.
Can you move to TB11? Also, can you see in the Task manager if after closing TB it is properly exiting from the process list. Also, does it happen in Safe mode (Help->Restart with addons disabled)?
We unfortunately have no current plans to upgrade to 11. Our software is managed by scripts that run when the users log in to their computer. I could install TB11, but the script will just revert it back to TB9.
OK, then please do the other two tasks.
TB is being shutdown properly and I disabled all addons with the exception of Lightning and Adobe because the user needs to have a calendar and be able to read PDF files.
Ok. When TB is OFF, can you find the file Inbox.msf corresponding to the Inbox folder of the account in question and move it to some safe location (back it up and remove from the original location)? Then start TB again. Also, maybe you could attach a screenshot here of the columns in the wrong state.
The user has advised me that the inbox still reset itself even with addons disabled. I will trying re-creating Inbox.msf tonight to see if that helps.
I re-created Inbox.msf and disabled the addons and the Inbox still reset itself. Any other ideas?
Wayne, WADA, any new ideas to help here?
(In reply to :aceman from comment #18) > Wayne, WADA, any new ideas to help here? I'm rather brain dead today.
Summary: Inbox settings reset to default and messages get moved to new location → pop inbox settings reset to default and messages get moved to new location
Can you see in Tools->Addons if you have the Test Pilot extension enabled? If yes, can you try disabling it?
Test Pilot was not enabled, but I removed it completely and restarted Thunderbird.
Thunderbird is still resetting itself and Lightning doesn't show on start up, even though it's enabled.
