Steps to reproduce:

Actual results:

Firefox updated from 8 to 9, and would no longer start.  I tried both the portable version as well as a full clean install.  I have since tried 9, 10, 11, and 12, but the problem remains.  The firefox.exe process shows in task manager, but does not respond.  So long as I use versions 8 and earlier, I am able to use FireFox with no issues.

This is on a corporate laptop, and other corporate machines have experienced the same problem.  I'm not sure if the problem could be related to the security software, or something else, but it is specific to a change that occurred starting on version 9.

I have attached a copy of the system info .nfo file,

Do you already tried the safemode ?

I am running Windows XP Professional, with SP 3.  When attempting to launch FireFox in Safe Mode, it still hangs.  I also can launch using -console, and I see the debug console, but it remains blank, but the main FireFox window never opens.  I can, however, launch the profile manager with the switch -profilemanager, however, attempting to start firefox from the profile manager results in hang.  Also, the firefox process loads quickly, and consumes no CPU once its loaded.  It's as if firefox is starting successfully, but the main window is not working.

I also have tried running FireFox in compatibility mode, but still no luck.

One other observation.  When I attempt to run FireFox 12 while I am running FireFox 8, I never get the dialogue box that says FireFox is already running.  However, if I attempt to run FireFox 8 when the FireFox 12 process is in task manager, I do get the dialogue that FireFox is already running from FireFox 8.  This behavior is the same for versions 9, 10, 11, and 12.

For further troubleshooting, I tried the different nightly builds for 9.0a1.  The last nightly build I am able to run is 9.0a1 nightly 09/01/2011.  9.0a1 nightly 09/02/2011 is the first nightly build that exhibits the problem.

I have narrowed down the problematic DLLs to:
mozjs.dll
xul.dll

The change to these DLLs on the 9.0a1 Nightly 09/02/2011 causes the build to lock up.

mozjs.dll + xul.dll are basically the whole Gecko (rendering Engine) and there is 90% of the code.
