Marco, do you know where these files are created?

Looks like it's a function of the external app helper service: http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/uriloader/exthandler/nsExternalHelperAppService.cpp#2155 and http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/uriloader/exthandler/nsExternalHelperAppService.cpp#1385.

Hmm, we probably should figure out where the caller is, and how we can modify it to propagate the PB status in to the external app helper service.
