Steps to reproduce:

Update FF to v.11 and Thunderbird to v.12, go in STANDBY mode and wake computer from standby.


Actual results:

Since the recent updates to FIREFOX v11 and THUNDERBIRD v12, BOTH programs don't react properly to input after the computer wakes up from standby. E.g the search drop-down list in FF's search bar doesn't open; in TB the alert (for new mail) doesn't pop up. There are quite a few other issues both programs display every time the computer wakes up from standby, but I can't recall them all.


Expected results:

The issues after standby get solved by simply restarting FF and TB. Seems to have to do with the common core engine both programs are using. I've only recently started using TB, so can't tell for sure whether the bug was already there in the first few days I was using TB 11. It definitely wasn't there in earlier versions of FF.

Happens ALWAYS after standby, in BOTH programs.

Hmmm, thanks. I thought more people would be having this problem. Maybe some updated add-on that I use in both programs is the culprit. I'll be watching out for one of those. That may take a while. If I find the culprit, I'll post about it here. I can already think of a candidate. ;-)

I'm pretty convinced now that those issues have to do with the latest updates of Firefox and Thunderbird themselves. The issues started, after all, after the latest updates.

I tested the following: 

a) I started both, FF and TB with all add-ons DISABLED, went in standby, woke from standby ...with the same result (i.e. several functions in both programs blocked).

b) As I'm using FF Portable and TB Portable, I could test them also on a second Windows XP installation (with very few and different software installed than on my default Windows installation) on the same hard disk ...with the same result.

It COULD still have to do with the updated "Portable" versions that I'm using exclusively, but I won't test regular install versions. Maybe someone can test with those portable versions (from portableapps.com)? ;-)


Here are some additional (not all) typical features being blocked in "Firefox Portable" after a wake up from standby:

-in the Bookmarks toolbar the folders won't open
-scrolling with the mouse through a menu won't highlight the commands
-in FF's Options -> Advanced, the tabs (General/Network/Update/Encryption) can't be picked
-in FF's Options -> Applications, the applications don't get displayed
-SpeedDial's own group tabs won't work
-also other add-ons are having issues (mainly with something being blocked)

Please don't report issue about Portable versions here unless you have tested with an official Mozilla.org build.
with official builds always try http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

For example

this would have been found by the nightly testers and our QA as this is very visible.

Ah, alright. It's just that those portable versions over at portableapps.com are considered to be official (sanctified by Mozilla) builds. The safe mode of those portable versions functions in the same way as on the link you gave (I had used exactly that safe mode from the "Help" menu in FF and TB). Maybe I'll try to get the previous portable versions again and test with those, and if the problem is not present in the old versions, I'll report the issue on their forum.

Just want to mention that going back to versions 10 (of Firefox Portable and Thunderbird Portable) really solved the standby issues of both programs.

I can confirm this bug.

Steps to reproduce:
Start Firefox in safe mode. Put computer to standby mode. Resume from standby.

Actual results:
Menu highlight does not work (the menu item over which the cursor hovers is not highlighted). Address bar text box does not echo input (typed characters appear only after return). Sometimes Firefox does not paint its window which may be partially or completely black but clicking in the window causes Firefox to paint the contents entirely or partially around the clicked point.

Expected results:
Standby should not break Firefox.
