RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 413083

People

(Reporter: chifuyu, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0
Build ID: 20120420145725

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to http://wp.me/prgSo-pm - the real URL is http://imouto.my/2011/06/28/魔法少女まどか★マギカ-mahou-shoujo-madoka★magica-anime-review/ for those who are paranoid.

This issue can also be repeated at other sites that uses Unicode characters in the address.

2. Try copying the URI at the address bar. You can do so by right-clicking the address bar, highlighting the address, then select 'Copy'.

3. Paste it into any text editor.

Actual results:

What happened is that the output will change to:-

http://imouto.my/2011/06/28/%E9%AD%94%E6%B3%95%E5%B0%91%E5%A5%B3%E3%81%BE%E3%81%A9%E3%81%8B%E2%98%85%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AE%E3%82%AB-mahou-shoujo-madoka%E2%98%85magica-anime-review/

Expected results:

What should happen is that the output should be:-

http://imouto.my/2011/06/28/魔法少女まどか★マギカ-mahou-shoujo-madoka★magica-anime-review/

This copy-and-paste operation works in Opera, and I don't really like installing another browser just to correctly copy a URL.
Please see bug 505991.
That referenced Bug 505991 doesn't seem to be connected to this one though. If I copy a Unicode text from the address bar, I expect to be able to paste them to any text editor like Notepad++ without them being changed.
This is a bad problem that has annoyed me for a long time.
I use Safari when I need to copy a URL with Unicode characters and paste it somewhere because Safari handles this correctly.
Would somebody change the status to confirmed?
Same as bug 413083, which is currently marked duplicate of bug 408890.

I'm having a similar problem now, with the same Japanese characters. You can see some examples by visiting http://www.hentairush.com/ - which is an English website with Japanese content, using Japanese titles.
