Description

I'm in the first steps of setting up a Costa Rican Mozilla community, and I would like to set up a domain with some static pages and a Wordpress install. Since the recommended practice is for Mozilla to own the domain, here we are.

I'd like to note that I already have Dreamhost hosting for other domains I own, so it wouldn't be a problem for me to handle hosting for this domain as well.

I sent the other required info (bandwidth requirements, Internet usage in my country, etc.) via email. Let me know if you need that info on this bug report as well.
Assigning to Arzhel who manages community IT requests and looping in Majken and Nukeador (both Mozilla Reps council members in charge of IT requests).

Jorge, what you plan with this page? Which kind of information would it offer?

My plan at the moment is to have a blog where I would post about Mozilla-related topics and also some static pages with information on what Mozilla is about and how to contribute (mostly pointing to MH and other Mozilla stuff). I also plan to set up a Twitter account and a Facebook account to go along with the site.
Hi Jorge,

Part of our evaluation of course includes whether there is already a site or community serving a region. Could you explain a bit more the benefits you see of having your own site rather than folding into MH? Feel free to email me directly if you feel uncomfortable discussing it with/in front of members of MH.

For me it's just a matter of discoverability. I think Costa Ricans are most likely to find the Costa Rican community site, and to find the Costa Rican Facebook or Twitter account. If they're looking for Mozilla in Spanish, they are very unlikely to use the term "Hispano", which is only used in certain areas. And even if they did, the small language differences can give them the impression that site / community is not mean for them and put them off. Most Hispanic communities have their own sites probably for the same reasons.

I'm certainly not trying to compete with MH. The idea is having a starting point that helps direct Costa Ricans to the right places and to help them understand that MH is meant for them as well.
Back to MozReps the time you guys figure out what's needed

Please purchase mozilla-costarica.org and point the nameservers to ns{1,2,3}.mozilla.org.
Re-assign then to me, thanks!

We only screen the applicants. IT decides what requirements are appropriate for their needs.

Thanks!

Jorge, can you tell me how much traffic do you think this website will generate? In comment 0 you mentioned that you sent the bandwidth requirements via email, but I wasn't probably on it. Can you please update the bug with this info?

At this point we have a small community with ~200 followers on Facebook and much less on Twitter. I don't expect much traffic on the website at the moment.
Jorge, IT, I haven't mentioned it in this bug but Mozilla Hispano is hosting other Spanish speaking community sites that have this need.

Mozilla is already paying a big server for us and we have plenty of space there.

Per IRC, Jorge is also OK with that!
:Nukeador, can you tell me to what IP I should point mozilla-costarica.org DNS entries?
Thanks!
OVH server ip is: 37.59.0.116

Jorgev, I assume that they should point mozilla-costarica.org and www.mozilla-costarica.org right?

Yeah, I'll point those two at first.
If additional subdomains are needed, please let me know.

LovelyMacBookAir:~ dumitrugherman$ host www.mozilla-costarica.org
www.mozilla-costarica.org has address 37.59.0.116

I'm gonna close this bug out, since there's no further action from IT now.
Please don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.
