I've began to experience performance drops in Firefox 11 and 12 (on Windows 7 & OSX) in Gmail and Google Docs. Spreadsheets are often unusable on Windows Firefox 12, there is a distinct lag. And recently on Firefox 12 I've been experiencing slow downs and more frequent "waiting" messages from the gmail client. When I immediately start using Chrome I can't replicate this issue.
If your Chrome uses SPDY while your Firefox 11 and 12 don't a significant difference may be expected, even if that doesn't explain the deterioration.
Google Docs feels a lot more performant in Firefox 14. Can't duplicate the issue anymore.
