User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0
Build ID: 20120422200738

Steps to reproduce:

I found this bug since I use Thunderbird (TB) v10, now its still there in v12.
I put keyword using east Asia characters, such as simplified Chinese in quick filter, the quick filter works fine.

Actual results:

I close the TB, then reopen the TB, the keyword using east Asia characters becomes unreadable characters.

Expected results:

The keyword should keep the same.

How did you manage to enter characters correctly in the 1st time, but not in the 2nd time?
does it happens all the time ?
I don't seem to see it in Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:15.0) Gecko/15.0 Thunderbird/15.0a1

I put in simplified chinese characters to quick filter, then close then reopen, the characters are no longer there (the field got reset)

I entered the keyword correctly for the 1st time, then close it, then reopen it. The keyword are still in the quick filter (I didn't enter the keyword twice).

The keyword keep the same if you use Europe character, e.g. English; the keyword becomes unreadable character if you use east Asia characters, e.g. Chinese.

Yes, it does.
Peter, does this reproduce for you?
Yes this bug is reproducible in the latest zh-TW Tb 13.0.1 (Build ID: 20120614161456), here's the testcase what I tried:

Below are the characters I entered in to quick filter box and what it turned out after restarting Thunderbird.

校	(U+6821) / !	(U+0021)
周	(U+5468) / h	(U+0068)
可	(U+53EF) / ï	(U+00EF)
我來	(U+6211, U+4F86) / (gone after restart)
reps	(U+0072, U+0065, U+0070, U+0073) / (still there after restart)

So I think some bits were eaten....
