Details

From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; 0.8.1)
BuildID: 2001041104

On my nightly build, closing a browser windows takes 2 (!) minutes on a Duron
800/256MB/Win2k system. All this time Mozilla hogs the CPU and becomes
unresponsive. After the windows is finally closed, the browser returns to a
seemingly healthy state (meaning I can browse using the left-over windows).

This happens with all the windows (including pop-ups and the last window). I
haven't tried mail/news on this. I've obviously only used this build for short,
but I think it happened everytime I started Mozilla. Can't tell if it happens
right away or after browsing a while.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Mozilla
2. Start browsing and open new windows (either by clicking links or by choosing
"File->New Window")
3. Closing a windows either by clicking the 'X' or by choosing "File->Close" or
by pressing Ctrl+W.

Actual Results: Took 2 bloody minutes for the windows to close :)

Expected Results: Should have taken << 10 sec.
unable to reproduce with 2001041204 mozilla trunk build (nor any recent build)
on win2K. Windows close in less than 1 second for me.
I did not had such problems since a long long time.

reporter: I am just curious: did you create a new profile within the last
monthes? There were some other things which got pretty slow with old profiles.

Just another update. Jens-Uwe, yes, I whiped out every trace of Mozilla on my
system (except for my bookmarks) last week and created a new profile.

I just deleted the 04/11 nightly and replaced it with the latest (04/12),
because it wouldn't start up anymore. It turned out that Mozilla was somehow
messing up my bookmarks. My bookmarks-file had grown to 8MB (endless copies of a
couple of bookmarks), which caused it to blow up on start-up. Might be (probably
is?) related to this bug. I'll see if I can reproduce the bug (the growing
bookmark-file) or look for an existing bug on this.
I'm sorry, I should have said that this resolved the window-closing problem
also. My windows now again close in 1 sec. BTW, bookmark-bug is #73873.
