We've landed a bunch of fixes <https://tbpl.mozilla.org/?rev=e912c25c141f> which should enable us to re-enable Windows nightly updates on m-c and the sister branches. Before re-enabling these, we need to perform a few smoke tests to make sure that updates work correctly on Windows. The steps required to perform these tests are as follows: 1. Make sure that Mozilla Maintenance Service is uninstalled. You can do this via the control panel. 2. Download an older nightly build (see below). You need to download the installer, and run it. 3. Go to the About dialog, wait for an update to be downloaded (and potentially applied in the background), and restart. 4. Verify that the updated build is at the latest revision <https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/d499dc65cdab>. These tests need to be performed on the following base revisions: a) Nightly from <https://tbpl.mozilla.org/?rev=e912c25c141f> (after the fixes). b) Nightly from 05/21 (before bug 307181 landed). c) Nightly from 05/01 (before bug 748764 landed). d) Nightly from <https://tbpl.mozilla.org/?rev=c20d415ef1b5> (when bug 307181 landed). Note that it is possible that running the tests with Nightly (d) fails. That shouldn't block re-enabling updates, but please add a comment here if that happens. As it's getting late on the eastern timezone, it's possible that me and Brian would not be around to perform the tests (because we need builds from Nightly a above). If you see failures to update in Nightlies (a) through (c), please refrain from re-enabling the updates, and comment here. I or Brian will look into that as soon as possible. Thanks!
All four scenarios tested with issues on Vista. There are a few more locales to complete on 20120523164348/rev d499dc65cdab, so I'll wait for those before re-enabling Windows updates on m-c. ux and profiling will need to wait until they have merged the fixes and done nightlies.
m-c updates are back on for Windows, 32 and 64 bit.
I also verified that the service gets replaced after scenario b) and it's working correctly.
Thanks a lot for your help, Nick!
FWIW, the profiling branch is now merged and does have a nightly with the merge.
UX has finished building Nightlies.
Profiling and UX now have Windows updates enabled again.
