When I open the MailNews window, mozilla connects to the first mailserver in the
Mail Folders List(left hand side). I have 4 POP3 accounts and several newsserver
listed there. The funny thing is, mozilla connects to the mail server, asks for
the password and indicates with a green arrow (modern skin), that new mail has
arrived (if there is mail in the mailbox) but it doesn't download the mail until
I press the Get Msg button. It doesn't connect automatically to the other accounts.
As it occured at the same time as the XUL changes took place, it could be
connected to bug

reporter,
What you have reported is not a bug. This is working as it should. The first
account in your profile does connect to the server to check for the new message
and indicates the new mssg when found. This is done by a preference that is
checked by default for the first account. Since you have pop this pref connects
to the server and just check and the green arrow at the account level indicates
the new message on the server. If you don't want to make a connection to the
server then go to accounts and settings from the edit menu and in server
settings uncheck-'check for new mail at the start up'. The reason why the
password dlg was displayed is for you to log into to that account. When you log
in and save the password for that account you are not prompted for the password
again. If you want to log into all the accounts when you first log into mail
then check the settings'check for new mail at the startup' which will display
psswd dlgs for each account.
With POP if you want messages to be downloaded when you log in do the following:
check pref-'check for new mssgs every[]minutes
check pref-'Automatically download any new mssgs'
The above will work right away if you have saved the password if not you will be
prompted with the password dlg and upon authentication you will see the new
mssgs.

Ooops, sorry for the spam. Yes, the preferences work as they should. I only was
confused, it hasn't done this before. You can mark this bug invalid or whatever
is appropriate. Thank you.
