Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android; Mobile; rv:14.0) Gecko/14.0 Firefox/14.0a2 /14.0a2 Build ID: 20120527042007 Steps to reproduce: I tried to enter passwords in login forms with dial pad mode of POBox. Actual results: Unwanted characters are entered in the password field while choosing a character. It is mostly impossible to enter passwords on Firefox Beta for Android. Expected results: Only the last character I chose to enter in the password field should be entered.

Which device, input method (virtual keyboard), Android OS, and site are you seeing this on?

(In reply to Aaron Train [:aaronmt] from comment #1) > Which device, input method (virtual keyboard), Android OS, and site are you > seeing this on? The device is Sony Ericsson mini S51SE (a variation of Xperia mini) and the input method is POBox. Android 2.3.4. It happens at this Bugzilla and other sites. When I try to enter a letter o in a password field, a letter m is displayed temporarily and it seems this m is entered in the field (asterisks increase) even if I press the same key to advance to a letter o.

Kaz, can you reproduce using the Android default input method? Chris, thoughts?

Kaz, I'm not familiar with the POBox input method. Who is the author? Is it available in the Google Play store or only for Sony Ericsson devices?

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/POBox#POBox_Touch - Naoki says it's the default VKB on those devices, I would assume the Japanese models only.

(In reply to Chris Peterson (:cpeterson) from comment #4) > Kaz, I'm not familiar with the POBox input method. Who is the author? Is it > available in the Google Play store or only for Sony Ericsson devices? BOBox is Sony (Ericsson) device only. With another (standard?) input method, something similar happens but slight differently, when I tap the same key just after an underlined letter m turns into an asterisk, the asterisk remains and another underlined letter n is displayed after it.

I wasn't able to reproduce this using xperia mini pro on the latest Aurora. In addition, I could log in on both of my hotmail and gmail account just fine with the PoBox input method. The situation happened in Comment 2 didn't occur for me.

It could be affected by "show password" setting returned from class Settings.System. Is Firefox try to hide characters even in composing text?

(In reply to Kaz Sasa from comment #8) > It could be affected by "show password" setting returned from class > Settings.System. Is Firefox try to hide characters even in composing text? It is. It only happens if the "show password" setting is checked. Other Android apps probably do not hide password characters in composing text. Turning a typed character into an asterisk is much sooner in Firefox than others.
I believe that this is the same issue as described in bug 767354 Since the developers are looking at that bug more so, I will dup it to that bug.
