I'm quite sure this is an evangelism bug (works fine in the Android standard browser):
1. Go to http://mobil.tagesschau.de
2. Observe that you need to zoom in to actually read the text as the page only uses a small part of the available display area
Tested with Firefox Beta and Firefox nightly (mozilla-central) on a Galaxy S2
The "Tagesschau" is the most viewed German news program, their webpage is also quite important: They have ~90 million page impressions/month (at least their main page www.tagesschau.de, dunno about their mobile page). That is why I'm filing this as a bug. Currently they're not redirecting any browser automatically though to their mobile page (neither Android standard browser nor the Firefox mobile browser).
I've contacted them by mail and attached a screenshot of the problem.

I got a response from them, they're currently working on a new page which will look fine in Firefox mobile.

Sweet! Let me know when you confirm that the problem is fixed.

Looks like they fixed it. Currently they don't redirect Firefox to the mobile page, but they don't redirect the stock Android browser to the mobile page either (when going to www.tagesschau.de). So I guess this bug is fixed for now.

Going to http://mobil.tagesschau.de, the page will be displayed correctly. However, if I request the desktop site (Menu > Request Desktop Site), the result it's the same as it is in the attached screenshot.
If I go to tagesschau.de, the desktop page is displayed correctly.
This issue reminds me about Bug 768035.

So you want that mobil.tagesschau.de redirects to www.tagesschau.de when requesting the desktop site? I'm not sure if I agree with that.

Requesting a desktop site for a webpage means that you really want to see that page exactly how it looks on your PC, right? mobil.tagesschau.de is a mobile page version for the original website so the suggested behavior looks fine for me. What would you expect to happen after you are requesting the mobile page for mobil.tagesschau.de?

On the PC mobil.tagesschau.de looks the same in a normal desktop browser. If you want the normal version, you should just go to www.tagesschau.de. When I go to a page with the prefix mobil., I expect to get the mobile page, no matter what my browser settings are. I would agree with you if www.tagesschau.de would serve both the desktop and the mobile version, but for now they seperated desktop and mobile.

I guess I understand your point of view. Indeed, I was thinking to those kind of pages like yahoo.com which serve first m.yahoo.com.
Regarding mobil.tagesschau.de, indeed, it looks like in the attached screenshot. At this moment here is what it happens on the latest Nightly:
1. Loading mobil.tagesschau.de will display the page on the whole screen
2. Requesting the desktop side will display it as in the attached screenshot.
Is this the expected behavior?

I'm resolving this bug as the evangelism issue described in the description has been fixed. The Request Desktop Site issue reported in comment 5 is a different issue. Can you please file a new bug for this new issue?

I feel like the request desktop site issue from comment 5 is basically the same problem as what is discussed in bug 790614.

Since this issue is fixed and cannot be reproduced it anymore on the latest Nightly, I will close this bug as verified fixed.

Also it looks like to be the same issue as described in Bug 790210
