Steps to reproduce:

I noticed this issue on facebook, that at times the right-to-left texts such as Persian texts, are incorrectly shown as left to right which is unreadable!

I nooticed the problem on facebook, while browing through the image gallery of a page with right-to-left text explanations under each photo. After viewing some pics suddenly the text is shown left-to-right for a few next photos and correct for the rest.



Expected results:

I tried the same facebook page with IE and Chrome, and both show the texts correctly and do not mess it up!

It's been very hard to find a way for you to reproduce the problem, but here I found one: 

If you open the picture (let's call it P1) at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=166254586836887&set=o.349756568387236&type=3&theater in THEATER mode(this is very important, it has to be in theater mode), then perform two clicks on the picture till you get to this picture (called P2): http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=226929760746908&set=o.349756568387236&type=3&theater

then the caption text under P2 gets messed up and shown from left-to-right while the original text right to left!


I have managed to produce the same issue on another machine.

One interesting point is that, it seems this sequence is important to generate the problem. In other words, if you just open and start from the picture just before P2, and then click next on it to go to P2, you will see that the text is shown correctly this time. This may imply that the problem which becomes evident in the text under P2, is actually originated somewhere before reaching it.

Another option is that if you directly open P2 in theater mode (without opening previous pictures and then clicking next or clicking on the picture to reach P2), you notice that the text is shown correctly.


This is a very tricky bug, but I hope my explanation helps you to catch it.

I'd like to emphasize that the pictures should be opened in facebook theater mode, not the old style of facebook for showing picture (which you get if you just click on the links above).

Can you test with a more recent version, e.g. Aurora(15)? This may be the same issue as bug 731594.

Just checked with Aurora 15. The problem is fixed there and it works fine!
