Opening bug to track creating a pilot localization of the Get Involved page. Additional background information available at bug 743746.

Pascal has also set up a page on the dev server at:

Most strings are done, are there more pending string to add to the .lang file? Since we translated all and the site is displaying some of them in English.

There is some documentation about localization on Bedrock at

http://bedrock.readthedocs.org/en/latest/l10n.html

This may or may not answer any technical questions people have, but hopefully it helps.

I have an update on timing for the ES Get Involved page after going to the mozilla.org planning meeting today.

There are still a number of issues with Bedrock that need to get sorted out before we can finish localizing the page (see bug 775269 for a list of l10n improvements).

This means that we won't be able to have the page ready in time for FISL, but we are looking at how to get this live soon after.

I'll share more information about a new proposed launch date as soon as I hear back from the webdev and l10n teams.

I just heard from Pascal that the page is ready for testing at

http://www.mozilla.org/b/es-ES/contribute/

Please take a look and let us know if you have any feedback. Note that Pascal has noticed some small sections of the page that are still in English and he's looking into that (the drop down form and Terms of Use checkbox).

I also sent a test message through the form, so please let me know if that was received. Right now, I believe it the emails from the form are set to go to Nukeador.
Hi,

C&P from my email:

*Shouldn't the url be "es" instead of es-ES?
*MDN link url has hardcoded locale: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Introduction
*The video doesn't have subtitles, is it possible to integrate them?
*Top bar menu links to pages that are semi-translated like http://www.mozilla.org/b/es-ES/products/
*"Mission" top bar link is not translated.

I tested the form and I got an email directly to my email. For Spanish, the generic email should be participa@mozilla-hispano.org and I don't know if we can define an extra one for each area, so mentors can receive these notifications too.
Quickly responding to your questions :)

1/ es is not a valid locale name, es-ES is a valid locale, this is going to remain like that as a first step because the use of non-valid locale codes (ie, different codes than what we use in Firefox) is likely to cause bugs on the site, namely to our download process. Aliasing es to es-ES on the python site is probably something we can investigate.
2/ there is a pull request awaiting approval for that
3/ That's bug 769715, there are dependencies we can't fully control on mozilla side and we shouldn't block on that
4/ This is another page and outside of the scope of this bug
5/ Mission is one of the strings awaiting translation from your team: http://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~pascalc/langchecker/?locale=es-ES#main.lang

As for the email change, I opened a just openened a pull request to get it changed. There is also a bug with the strings in the select form that are not extracted, that's actually related to 783202 and I am hoping it will be included in this week code sprint, if it can't be included, I will put the strings for translation for all locales, not just the ones we target this month/next month for the contribute page.

Is it possible to: Upload a video with the subtitles included or remove the video till we have it in Spanish?
> 4/ This is another page and outside of the scope of this bug

Then it would be nice if it's redirected to en-US instead of showing a half-translated page.

David, Pascal, are we going to be able to have a different localized contact for each area in this first version?

We would like to have a different group handling each one and always cc'ing the mozilla hispano participation group. Some kind similar to English one.

I agree that this would be ideal, but I don't believe this is available in this initial release. If you look at the current code there is just one global locale contact.

https://github.com/mozilla/bedrock/blob/master/apps/mozorg/email_contribute.py

We should file a bug to get this added though. Ruben, would you like to file the bug with Mozilla's Hispano's requirements? I suspect Mozilla Hispano currently has the most sophisticated localized participation group, so we can use this as the model for other localized participation efforts to grow into.
Done, bug 796845

Commit pushed to master at https://github.com/mozilla/bedrock

Bug 760820, change the Spanish email contact to participa@mozilla-hispano.org
I looked at the Spanish translation of the page are you are 36 trings behind :
http://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~pascalc/langchecker/?locale=es-ES#mozorg/contribute.lang

I also see that the email responses (*.txt files in the email folders on svn) are not translated yet.

Thanks

Sorry I didn't update those strings before. The localization was completed two weeks ago, but I thought there would a few more changes on the page.

I just committed to svn at r111723. Any stage page to test the localization?

Best,
no problem Inma :)

Here it is, https://www-dev.allizom.org/es-ES/contribute

I think it's updated like every 15mn

Hi!

There must be a missing string in contribute.lang source file, @Pascal. If you click on the drop-down menu next to "¿Área de interés?" there's an area that displays (ironically) untranslated - "Localization and Translation."

Best,
I have updated you file to have the missing string, svn up please

Hi!

I just committed the reviewed and proofread file to svn - r111743. We may need extra time for emails l10n, since we are discussing the best way to fit them into our current mentorship program.

Hi team,

My apologies for the delay, I just committed the emails file - r111989. I'd like to do some functional and linguistic testing, so please let me know when they are fully functional.

Additionally, it would be great if a Mozilla shortener could be provided to help keep the text tidy and more organized. It's a bit cluttered up with URLs :)

Best,
This is live - http://www.mozilla.org/es-ES/contribute/

Hi,

Are emails fully functional now? I mean, if a contributor is interested in a specific area, and fills in the form, will they receive the corresponding localized email?

Thanks,

We need to fix bug 823536 first.

OS: Mac OS X → All
Hardware: x86 → All
This is now live and email responses are functional so I think we can close this.
