Steps: 1. Go to apps.mozillalabs.com/appdir and install a web application 2. Launch the web application 3. Pin the web application to the launcher in Ubuntu 4. Go to apps.mozillalabs.com/appdir and re-install that web application 5. Close the web application Expected: The launcher should still show the correct icon for the app, be launchable, and show the launcher context menu on hover. Actual: See screenshot. A no icon symbol is shown on the launcher. Hovering over it shows an empty context menu. Right clicking that icon does not pull up the undock from launcher option.

This has a bad side effect I noticed too - I can no longer install apps after this happens on my Nightly build on Ubuntu - The doorhanger will never come up anymore.

Jason, I can't reproduce. I have a different problem on 12.04: when you re-install the application, the icon is unpinned from the Launcher but the process is still alive. Looks like a Unity bug, we could circumvent it by not overwriting the desktop entry file.

The issue with the icon disappearing sounds like https://launchpad.net/bugs/925421

This was just to verify my assumption.

(In reply to Marco Castelluccio from comment #2) > Jason, I can't reproduce. That actually sounds like the bug I'm hitting actually. Maybe I worded it not too well?

(In reply to Jason Smith [:jsmith] from comment #5) > That actually sounds like the bug I'm hitting actually. Maybe I worded it > not too well? When I re-install the app, the icon disappears completely from the launcher. I don't see the icon with the interrogation point.

Per talking in IRC with Marco, a simple solution to this problem is throw an error if a user tries to install an app while its running that they need to close the app to reinstall it.

We should make this solution cross-platform though, as that would fix bug 751898 as a result as well.

Per bug 1238079, we're going to disable the desktop web runtime and remove it from the codebase, so we won't fix these bugs in the integration between Firefox and the runtime.
