Vichy, maybe you are not aware of bug 62228 (the tracking bug for a complete reorganization of the Mozilla news hierarchy). The old netscape.public.mozilla.* newsgroups are going away. The new structure has been discussed on n.p.m.general some time ago, and the latest proposal has been stable for some months now. It can be found at http://www.mozilla.org.uk/newsgroups.txt In the new structure, there is already a newsgroup mozilla.dev.apps.browser which would be suitable for the discussions you mention above. In Gerv's doc it says that this is a replacement for n.p.m.seamonkey, but I would agree with you that seamonkey has a different purpose, namely discussing general important project issues. So maybe we need a new newsgroup in the new scheme to replace n.p.m.seamonkey.

I understand about the new hierarchy. But we need this newsgroup now, before the reorg, since its not yet clear when the reorg is going to happen.

Vishy: there are several other bugs about creation of new newsgroups. Bug 57323, bug 59522, bug 69699 and the recently "INVALID because we've found other methods of communicating because you guys took so long" bug 58670. Some of these have been waiting for months, and all are equally urgent as n.p.m.browser . If you have some influence with AOL IT support, we would be very grateful if you'd use it to make the reorg happen. Last I heard, the server is apparently there, it just needs setting up. The spam and noise levels in the old groups are getting ridiculous. However, if you do manage to persuade someone to create this group in the old hierarchy, perhaps you could ask them to create all the above ones while they are there? Gerv

Mark, Please create this group ASAP. We can handle the reorg as a separate issue later. Risto

Created netscape.public.mozilla.browser and gated to mozilla-browser@mozilla.org Also the description provided was too long so I shortened the description to: "Discussion of browsing application issues."
