This might get marked as invalid, but it needs to be reported so someone else doesn't waste their time with it.

If you unpack omni.ja and run Firefox, search engines no longer load from add-ons at all.

They load from all other places, they just don't load from unpacked extensions.
What's the use-case for this scenario, and how common is it? It'd be good to have that for context, as well.
The primary use case for me is that when I am hacking on Firefox JS files, I unzip omni.ja and hack on the JS files directly.

I have heard on the enterprise forum that there are some folks that run with omni.ja unpacked. This is not really supported and causes other problems (like about:home not working - bug 630874)
