Hi,
What does hang exactly mean?
Does it start at all? Or does it start and then crash immediately?
Or does it start and you cannot click anything, but the window still exists?
Also see http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-wont-start-find-solutions
When I try to open a tab the default window, it stuck. no specific action is require. I tried resetting the firefox and also re-installed after removing all personal data. but it seldom helps.
Andre,
It's not a crash but a hang. I tried reinstall, reset option everything out but when I open the new tabs, Firefox hangs! I have to eventually kills it and start Google Chrome instead!

I suspect this is caused by the AntiVirus but this isn't happening with any other browsers. Totally clueless!

meaning if you disable AV, the hang doesn't happen? (if you don't know, please test)
does it happenin safe mode? see http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Safe+Mode
Severity: normal → critical

I'm having a very similar/same bug with all Nightlies for last 2 weeks or so. Only on Windows 7, my Debian Nightlies are fine. I start FF, it hangs for several minutes at a time. It eventually starts, but every action prompts another hang, or its still hanging & therefore impossible to do anything. I've tried all the Standard Diagnostic stuff, new profile, safe mode etc, makes Zero difference. My suspicion is either a Registry setting, or other Win7 specific thing. Its as though it keeps getting stuck trying to access something & then "times out" & unsticks until the next user action.

Being a developer and power user, I tried all my level best to sort out the problem including the following
- The issues has been reproduced in the safe mode. Not caused by addons or HW
- I have attached enough logs and dump files for analysis but no help from mozilla developers.
- Increased the script time, but I always get "Unresponsive Script" warning
- Reset Firefox, uninstalled fully, and reinstalled, but no help. I am running the latest version. This is there since v12, 13 and 14
- I seriously suspect if this is a script engine problem or some kind of settings issues with Windows. The server box mostly will be lean and mean. So some of the features which Firefox expect might not be configured.
- I can't disable AV because it's controlled by domain administrator. I have same anti-virus in my laptop but it works just fine.
- Last but the least, I reinstalled my server box just to use Firefox. but no help!

OK for me(now nightly version 19) - as Sarat says, something has cured the issue.
