reading an expired article doesn't mark it as read. you'll get the "expired" message in the message pane, but the message is not marked as read.

verified fixed: Windows 2000 build 2001050508 Mac OS 9.1 build 2001050408 RedHat 7.0 build 2001050408 Selecting an expired message marks it read, and toggling the status (back to unread) with the green icon and then reading it again, also marks it read.
