Hi Tara, Questions: 1) Will the graphic/copy just be EN-US? Or localized? (I want to make sure it's on the l10n calendars if it will be.) 2) William is thinking of 3 posts (2 at the start of the Olympics and one at the end.) However, I don't think we'd want the same post three times (diminishing returns.) Can you clarify if you're thinking of 3 graphics, 2 graphics and a video, just text, etc.? 3) Can we set a due date for this? We need to make sure we get into the approval cycle. If the posts are not localized, we can wait a bit longer for the copy (say, July 20). If we need to localize something, we'd need this complete no later than July 13 to give localizers time for the text to be translated. We're working through the end of July social calendar, so any updates you could give would help us solidify placements. Thanks, Carmen

Tara and I talked through this some last week. We were thinking that the first two posts could point people to the custom tab with a CTA to add their country's flag to their Firefox. We should aim to have all promotional copy done by July 13th for our social media contributors to help. Tara, it may be easier to have our L10n contributors (a different group than our social media contributors) localize the promo copy since they are localizing the custom tab anyway. In that case, we need the final copy to L10n at the same time the tab copy is handed off.
Hey guys, following up with some updates. The snippet copy is done... Matej is going to take those 2 snippets and translate them into posts for the newsfeed. We're just going to do 2. One will be pointing to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJj3Z0MgQvY and one will be pointing to our custom tab (which might also have that video). Matej, I don't think we need the posts to be very long, but since it's out of context and doesn't have the olympic imagery around it ... it might need a little more fluffing. Let me know what you think.
Wanted to make a suggestion, if I may, on the video. You could insert a watermark on the video with a download Firefox link, so if the video gets shared to those without Firefox, you could capture those downloads. According to the Flicks folks, it's not hard to do. Just a thought to maximize our 3 goals. :)

There's the rub. As I am not technical that way, I *think* you have to use a free software and add it. I know Tobias is working with Kristin to add the watermark to their Flicks video- perhaps check with him? I Googled it and got several links - though not sure which to send you. :)

Thanks Matej! I think since the video will be embedded into the newsfeed we won't really need to say "watch the video". William wdyt? Do we all feel that "this Summer" will suffice in capturing the reference to the Olympics? I mean, it's technically not summer for everyone, even though it's officially referred to as the "Summer Games".... maybe I'm overthinking it. I don't mean to backpedal here since I did ask for these to be wrapped in some type of olympic related reference (a.k.a "this summer").... but what if we said something like this: >>Join Firefox in celebrating the global spirit of community that's bringing the world together this summer. >>Show your support! Without it, I feel that "Show your support" doesn't really add very much.
+1 for using summer as a way of subtly referring to the Olympics. (and this same comment applies to the other bug where this is being discussed)

The best practice is to say "Watch this 1-minute video". Video posts that say "watch" usually have at least double the views compared to posts that don't say watch. How about something like this? I like the message here, but it's not clear what the user should do to celebrate until they click the link and view the tab. The post below does a great job at saying you can customize your Firefox with a flag, so I think we should include that info in this post as well. Yah the video isn't exactly 1 minute. is that a problem? Please confirm, and we'll wrap this up for l10n today. I don't think we need more than 2, I mean, Ideally we'd post one at the opening ceremony and point to the video, and another shortly after to point to the flags, and then a recap during the closing ceremony. But I also don't want to burden l10n too much given the tight turnaround here. I guess if we wanted we can have an additional blurb for l10n for the last week but the priority is the 2 that matej already did. I'm trying not to overcomplicate here :)
