76610 - Need better Back and Forward button performace

WinME and Win2k running the 2001-04-12-12 builds.

I'd like to suggest some specific cache work (if that's where the problem is).
There seem to be two things going on which, if fixed, would make many users
quite happy.

First, even though I'm visiting pages within the same site, the browser often
insists on performing redundant DNS lookups. It says "Resolving www.yahoo.com"
quite a lot, for example, even when I'm already at that site.  IE and
Communicator 4.x do not seem to exhibit this behavior.

Second, the browser does not seem to look for page data when I hit Back or
Forward.  It usually says "Tranferring data from dir.yahoo.com" when I expect it
to just pull that data from the cache.  IE 5.5 does not seem to work this way,
and is very fast with Back and Forward operations. I have not yet tried
Communicator.  The difference is 1 to 5 seconds with Mozilla vs. perhaps 100-500
miliseconds for the same pages in IE 5.5.  

You can see this behavior much more clearly if you access the Internet via a
56kb modem.

This is really two different bugs reports.  The DNS caching issue is covered by 
bug 30917, which I hope to have time to fix for 0.9.1.

The other issue concerning history's use of the cache has been fixed with Darin's 
recent landing (April 13th?) of revisions to HTTP's validation logic.  Try out a 
recent build and you should notice an improvment.  Also, double check your page 
validation settings in the Advanced/Cache preference panel; you probably want to 
set yours for "Automatic".
