I've been told, and verified empirically, that the ISO on fs2 does not work to install OS X on parallels. Bug 759370 is an example of this.
I'd like to file a parallels support case, but I think the first thing to do is verify that the ISO is a faithful reproduction of the DVD.

I spoke with a tech about another issue, and he said that this is *not* normal, so once we've verified the MD5's and whatnot, we should definitely file a ticket with them.

Phong, can you either md5sum the DVD, or put it in a drive somewhere I can get to?
The ISOs are:
[dustin@mvadm01 Apple]$ md5sum Mac_OS_X_10.6_Snow\ Leopard_Retail.iso
3acd5def1d43827ef9e347e80dbcb2d1 Mac_OS_X_10.6_Snow Leopard_Retail.iso
[dustin@mvadm01 Apple]$ md5sum Mac_OS_X_Server_10.6.dmg
1670c9e595182019d6cd761329a4ea73 Mac_OS_X_Server_10.6.dmg
(we want the second one, but just for reference..)

I have one he can use. When can you pick it up?

I need an md5 hash. And I'm not onsite, so I can't pick it up. But it's only 20 characters so if you copy-paste it into the bug that should be sufficient :)

Henry, you pinged me yesterday pointing out there's an ISO on fs2. I know there is :)
The context is all in this bug, but we need a *new* ISO taken and compared to the existing to see if the existing ISO is corrupt.

Let me simplify and recap the request here:
Please capture a *new* ISO image of the Mac OS X 10.6 Server DVD and place it somewhere I can access it.

Henry found the retail disk, and the md5's differ. He's going to upload the new ISO to fs2. As for the server disk, Henry can't find one. From ##osx-server:
22:00 < djmitche> anyone know a way to get Apple install media? Can't seem to locate my OS X Server disk, for which I have adequate licenses
22:00 < djmitche> 10.6 ^
22:31 < tvsutton> djmitche: $99 to Apple for a developer account
22:31 < djmitche> orly - we have one of those
22:31 < djmitche> I'll look there
22:31 < tvsutton> check the ADC downloads
22:32 < tvsutton> I believe they still offer them... But could be wrong.
22:33 < djmitche> thanks!

Oh, I bet that DVD is sticking out of, or very near, parallels{2,3}.community.scl3. Dcops, can you check it out? Probably easiest is to stick it in one of those two machines (let me know which), and I'll rip the ISO.

Oh, the update re downloading from Apple is, they have all of the developer seeds, and all of the updates, but the 10.6.0 install DVD is conspicuously absent.

Van - this is the part I need. When we installed the VMs on parallels2/3, y'all found the DVD, so I bet it's still in scl3 somewhere. Please stick the DVD into a machine and I'll rip an ISO of it.

:dustin, I've inserted the CD into camino-xserve4.community.scl3. Please let me know if there are any issues and let me know when we can remove the disk for safe keeping.
thanks,
Van

[Parallels #1463773] Instals without physical media do not work

Comment 24•12 years ago

Parallels recommended that I capture a .dmg instead of a .iso. Vinh has kindly inserted the DVD again (and again after I ejected it like a dummy), and the install seems to be proceeding apace. I'll check back tomorrow, and if this works, I'll put the .dmg on fs2 and add some docs.

That seemed to work - I got as far as the license code, where I don't have one in the right format (XSVR-106-999). I'll copy the DMG to fs2 and update Mana.
Thanks for the help everyone :)
