This bug is for the design elements for the July email - due date, July 6 please.

Tara - I'm still unsure if you're planning on using the video screenshot for the email, or if you're using a static image for the Olympics campaign item in the email. Just let us know here in the bug when you know. :) 

Also think it would be nice to have an Olympic-like graphic for the intro email. There's a question in the request for you there, too, Tara. :)

Can this be the same one? Lee is creating one for about:home, which we'll repurpose and extend to other places.

Hmm, aren't those logos vs."get involved" graphics?  I thought we had something like a hand being raised, etc.

Can we include an olympic themed Persona here?  I'm hoping we can create one off of the illustration Lee does.  No guarantees, but I'm hoping :)  if not, we'll be pointing to the AMO collection of flags in the main article so we are fine.

Awesome - and I asked for it twice, so as long as there's a smaller version of the graphic, and then the bigger version, we're covered. (Though Jess or Winston can correct me.)

If you can create one from the graphic, I'm okay including it instead of the fractal one. The other two were as close to Olympic as I could get without the rings. :)

Hi there, sorry for the late comment (I hope it's not too late)

Those personas seem a little odd to me :(  we're working on a set of new designs for the olympics (country flags, mainly) can we use at least one of those? I have a generic one in the works as well but that's not ready yet.  I may be able to get 1-2 generic ones (with the FF cauldron imagery) to you tomorrow if it's not too late.  I just find the set right now a tiny bit random given that we have all these other great ones and that personas/themes are one of the main things we're offering for the Games.  Thoughts?

Hi Tara,

Jess will have to comment on if it's too late. Though, if you can get us a GENERIC one today, I wouldn't see why we couldn't incorporate that.

The flag personas are getting an entire article dedicated to them in the copy - so they are featured prominently. 

However, the other personas are themed around Olympics (a London image, etc.) and what we had in-hand when the deadlines arrived. 

I hesitate to use the flags, and here's why.

Let's say we send the EN newsletter. People from the US, Canada, and probably other countries (Germany, France, etc.) subscribe to the EN newsletter. I don't want to be presumptuous and send an email with a US and Canada flag, and then someone says "why not my country's flag." Flags are so politically sensitive, and some have ethnic sensitivities as well, that I think calling them out graphically in those 3 spots is risky. Linking them off in the main article would be best, I think.

Hey!

I concur that the 3 featured personas are a little weird.  

I agree with Carmen that using country flags could get political/awkward. We don't have time to make sure that person in x country is shown x flag (we do have this capability, but it's something that takes a lot of coding prep and we'd need the images for every country - and a generic one for those we don't have country info).

Timing wise, we have until Friday as a drop-dead deadline to get the new persona links and images. Personas do not have a localization component to it so we're a little more flexible with switching out this content last minute.

Ideas for personas:
Feature generic Olympic themed ones that Tara's working on now.
Turn the cauldron into a persona & create a new article image (maybe a Firefox in a tracksuit, or pole vaulting, or running a race?)


Let me know what you decide so I know the plan.

Sure.  though I'd prefer not to since we're trying to retire those illustrations from our materials (they've already technically been retired).  Perhaps we can use the speedometer or other graphic to suggest speed? there are lots of iconography that can easily suggest speed .... if there's time to use something like that vs. the cheetah.
