Details

If I have the umlaut on the 'o' in my last name in the Mail/News account settings, when I send mail it UTF-8 encodes and then ISO-8859-1 encodes it, so it ends up as garbage. It should do only ISO-8859-1, since that is the encoding I'm using for the message. From: Eric =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Hedstr=C3=B6m?= <erich@peregrine.com> User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.8.1+) Gecko/20010419 This worked yesterday, in the 2001041804 build.
works again in 2001042012, no doubt related to other Preferences breakage that has been fixed.

This is broken again in 2001-04-27-14. Looks like the breakage happens when it saves the preferences: If you go back into mailnews settings or look at the From line in mailnews editor, it shows the garbage (well, utf-8 encoded 'ö') instead of the ö.

Yes, account name setting is broken for non-ASCII. Please see bug 77967.
