Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0.1
Build ID: 20120614114901
Steps to reproduce:
Browsed with multiple tabs in up to three windows.
Actual results:
Firefox crashes repeatedly (at least 15 times in 24 hours), even in safe mode, with all addons disabled.
It might be some sort of virtual memory problem as I can see the VM going up over time in Task Manager and I get occasional low VM alerts from Windows.
Expected results:
It should have remained stable.
Here are the crash reports for the last 24 hours:

You hit various crash signatures, mainly the empty thread one which is unexploitable. Your profile is likely corrupt.
Does it happen with a new profile (see https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles)?

I've just created a new profile and deleted the old one, also deleting all files. I synced Firefox under the new profile to restore my date.
I'll put up another comment if the crashes resume.
Thanks for your time.

It's not a new clean profile because you synced Firefox with the corrupt profile on the Sync server.
Does it happen with a new clean profile?
Note: You should have post only the new crash IDs with the bp prefix (clicking on it make it appear) and without the date so that they become links like that:

Strange; the profile works fine on my laptop under both Windows and Ubuntu. Likewise on my Desktop under Ubuntu. Is it for sure that it's corrupted on the server?
How can I preserve my password and other personal details when creating a new profile? (I know I can export and then import the bookmarks.)

Try to reinstall Firefox to be sure the corruption doesn't come from your profile.

I've installed FEBE and backed up my profile. What can I safely restore form it into a new, blank profile?

Reinstalling Firefox doesn't impact your profile.

I am trying to determine what's wrong here, so use a new profile first.

Thanks for all your time on this. I just want to make sure I don't do anything irreparable before I go further.
1) I've backed up my profile to a different drive.
2) I can now uninstall Firefox and delete all its files.
3) I can then re-install Firefox and see if it keeps crashing.
4) If and when we track down the problem, will I be able to restore my personal data from the FEBE backup?
I realize that the answer to the last question may depend on the nature of the problem, but is there a way to extract uncorrupted information from a profile backup that I can then use to make Firefox easily accessible?

You can later recover important information http://support.mozilla.org/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile

Here is the crash report after the re-installation: bp-79525909-146a-4883-9038-70e7d2120702. It's bug 706442 that doesn't have STR.
Does it happen with Free Download Manager disabled?
Does it happen with Microsoft Research Detours Package disabled?

Before the re-install I disabled all add ons.
I haven't installed any since re-installing. Since re-installing I no longer have Free Download Manager installed. I don't ever remember installing Microsoft Research Detours Package. It's not amongst the Add ons or extensions listed I see now that only the standard ones are enabled now. Is there a way to generate a list that I can paste in here?
Comment 17•13 years ago
|

In comment 15, I talked about the program, not the extension.
If you click the Modules tab of the crash report, there are uncommon DLLs:
* fdmumsp.dll 1.0.21.0 (Free Download Manager)
* flvsniff.dll 1.0.1020.0 (Free Download Manager)
* detoured.dll 2.1.0.207 (Microsoft Research Detours Package)
If don't know how to disable FDM, try to uninstall it.
Don't disable or uninstall Microsoft Research Detours Package for the moment.

OK. I've uninstalled Free Download Manager. It turns out that detoured.dll was in the same directory, so it's gone now too. I'll let you know what happens.

Only the two first crash reports are free from FDM. You hit bug 745676 and the js::InflateString crash signature.
Uninstall Google Desktop that is no longer maintained and can interfere with Firefox because of its DLLs (see http://googledesktop.blogspot.com/).

It does indeed sound like it's not firefox.
Does it reproduce in windows safe mode [1] using firefox 17 beta from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/ ??
