User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0.1 Build ID: 20120615112143 Steps to reproduce: I installed Chatzilla revision 0.9.88.2 over xulrunner. I set up its configuration. I hibernated. I thawed. Now Chatzilla has forgotten its configuration: '~$ /usr/lib/chatzilla/chatzilla' produces a virgin Chatzilla. When I entered now '/pref profile', Chatzilla did not produce any output. Actual results: When I entered '/pref profilePath /home/<myUsername>/.chatzilla/<xyz>.default/chatzilla/' I obtained this error message: "There was a runtime error with ChatZilla. Please report the following information: NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsILocalFile.create] @ <chrome://chatzilla/content/lib/js/file-utils.js> 322 + QueryInterface (function) 3 lines + message (string) 'Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsILocalFile.create]' + result (number) 2147500037 + name (string) 'NS_ERROR_FAILURE' + filename (string) 'chrome://chatzilla/content/lib/js/file-utils.js' + lineNumber (number) 322 + columnNumber (number) 0 + location (object) + inner (object) null + data (object) null + initialize (function) 3 lines Expected results: My command '~$ /usr/lib/chatzilla/chatzilla' to open ChatZilla should have opened a configured ChatZilla program window showing the IRC networks and IRC channels and further preferences I had typed into ChatZilla before.
I installed Chatzilla on xulrunner according to the recipe outlined in http://chatzilla.rdmsoft.com/xulrunner/ . The error described consolidated: If I start Chatzilla now the error message described appears even without entering '/pref profilePath /home/<myUsername>/.chatzilla/<xyz>.default/chatzilla/' and even after rebooting my computer and restarting Chatzilla. If I confirm this error message by preessing its »Ok« button, the program window remains empty apart from some geometrical framing. May be it adds to finding the bug if I mention that the the command '~$ /usr/lib/chatzilla/chatzilla' first produces about 30 warnings: "(chatzilla:2637): Gtk-WARNING **: Im Modulpfad »murrine« konnte keine Themen-Engine gefunden werden," followed ba one message: "Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module".
For Step 6. "Start chatzilla in /usr/lib/chatzilla.", did you run that under sudo? Starting CZ for the first time as root causes the ~/.chatzilla folder to be owned by root, which prevents chatzilla from running under a normal user (since it can't even create a new profile in the ~/.chatzilla directory). The rdmsoft instructions could probably be clearer regarding this.
