I attempted to update my extensions in Firefox 13.0.1. When downloading the updates Firefox appears to download them successfully, but the icon at the top of the update window continues to animate as if updates are still downloading. After restarting Firefox in an attempt to install the updates, the updates won't be installed. This cycle repeats endlessly until I uninstall Firefox and select the option to remove all extensions. Clicking "undo" on an extension that has failed to install doesn't stop the extension from attempting to update. After many cycles of installing Firefox, testing plugins, and uninstalling Firefox, I have concluded that the problem seems to start when the Ghostery or CLEO extensions are installed and/or updated. Plugins and updates should install after a single restart. Users shouldn't be required to uninstall Firefox to remove extensions that fail to install correctly.

I fail to repro :-/ * I installed Ghostery Version 2.7.2 (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ghostery/versions/) * I installed CLEO Version 5.0 (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cleo/versions/) * restarted Firefox and let the Update Check in AOM run => all fine after the following Restart. Does deleting/renaming your extensions.* Files in your Profile Dir help?
Hi, What do you mean by extensions.* Files? There are many files in my extensions profile directory. I saw CLEO@guid.customsoftwareconsult.com.json and a directory called CLEO@guid.customsoftwareconsult.com in the Staged folder, and they stayed there even after I restarted Firefox. I deleted them and I no longer saw CLEO in my list of extensions. I tried installing CLEO again, and again CLEO stayed stuck in the Staged folder. I tried this on a different computer and it worked ok. Something must be different about the first computer's configuration. Any ideas?
(In reply to Anonymous from comment #2) > What do you mean by extensions.* Files? e.g. extensions.ini/extensions.sqlite in your Profile Folder (reachable via about:support).
After downloading CLEO and restarting, it doesn't appear in the list of extensions in about:support. The add-ons manager continues to tell me that CLEO will be installed after restarting.
I figured it out. This problem was caused by the settings of my computer's security software. I'm marking this as resolved invalid since it appears that the problem isn't a Firefox bug and I don't see a true security problem with how Firefox was handling the extension files. Thanks.
