We need a keyboard shortcut to toggle the dark overlay and node bar when an element is highlighted. The shortcut would toggle both the overlay and the nodebar at the same time. This would help people quickly see how the element fits in with the overall look of the page while they're tweaking the CSS for the element.
I would prefer the other around. By default, when a node is locked, we don't show the veil and the selection. Pressing a key would show the veil + selection has long has the key is pressed. Releasing the key would hide the veil again.
