User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0.1
Build ID: 20120614114901

Steps to reproduce:

The Instant-Search (Schnellfilter) of Thunderbird is not working for some words.

Select an folder ( Sent for example ).

- Click in the Instant Filter Textfield
- Remark: Deactivate all selected Show-Only-Selectors
- Choose (Nachrichteninhalt, Body) as Search Key.
- Search (probably with a longer word) for a word.

If you lucky Thunderbird will find the email and list it - if not you have the described failure.
Hint: If you hit ENTER after writing the searched word into the search field, then the Search-Result-Tab will open and display the searched emails even they will not displayed in the list.

Actual results:

I have an email which contains the word "Nachtkerzenbad".

If i search with Instant-Search for "Nachtkerzen" it will not be found.
(Even if i have a second mail which only contains the word "Nachtkerzen")

If i search with Instant-Search for "Nachtkerzenbad" it will not be found, too.

In the status line the word "Suchen..." is displayed and after some time it disappeares.

Remark: All Tag-Filters are deaktivated.

Expected results:

"Suchen..." in the status line should disappear and then the email should be listed.

Remark - if i hit enter and the Search-Result-Tab opens then the searched email appears - but still not in the list of emails like it should.

The email is in the right folder ( Gesendet, Sent ) - i verified this.

is it on all folders or just "some of them" ?
Atlanx, are you aware that QuickFilter will only find matches for the *current* (selected) folder? So you first need to select your "Gesendet (Sent)" folder from folder list, then quickfilter while you are inside that folder. Does that work?

Did you double-check on the correct spelling of your search term, both in the mail message and in the search box?

Does it happen for other search words, too, or just "Nachtkerzen"?
Summary: Instant Search (Schnellfilter) is not working for some words → Instant Search (QuickFilter) is not working for unique words in message body
Yes i know that its only searching in the actual selected folder.

Yes i double checked it.

I still had it in past with other words - so i took now the chance to report it.

> is it on all folders or just "some of them"

Good Question - i think i had it in at least to folders (inbox and sent).
But i will do more tests and then report.
please check whether Edit | Find | Search Messages on body also fails to find the words in the same folder.

If you find a failure, please save the message as a fille, and attach file to this bug report.
