On the Windows version, you have to look at the View menu twice for the
checkmark to show up. Could this be the problem you're seeing?

When you first display the autodetect menu, the item isn't checked. You how to
display it again.

Summary: OS/2 - CharacterCoding-AutoDetect not saved → Check mark in character coding->autodetect isn't displayed at first
This bug not only affects "Character Coding -> Auto-Detect" menu,
it also affects "Character Coding" menu itself too.
How to reproduce? Take off the mouse away from the "Character Coding" menu and
then refocus your mouse to that menu again. Until then the little mark will
show up, indicating the active character doding.
